Introducing Mimi - Malibu Employee of the Month

A big congratulations to our December Employee of the Month at The Biggest Loser Resort in Malibu, Mimi!!!

If you've visited us in Malibu in the past, then I am positive you know exactly who I am speaking of. The guests LOVE Mimi and so do we! Here's more information about one of our favorite people!

1. Where are you from?

    Camarillo, CA

2. How long have you worked at the BLR Malibu?

I joined the BLR Team one month after the grand opening last year, so since October
    2010.

3. What do you do at the BLR Malibu?

I am a hiking guide and I also work at the front desk.

4. What is your favorite part of your job?

That is a tough question to answer because there are so many aspects of my job that I
really like. In a nutshell, I would have to say meeting the variety of guest that stay here
at the ranch; hiking in the magnificent Santa Monica Mountains; having the ability to
encourage and help our guests incorporate their health and wellness dreams as a
concrete part of their everyday lives.

5. What do you like to do when you aren't working?

Well if I wasn’t a human I would be a fish. I love the ocean and I enjoy spending time in
and on it as much as I can. I paddle competitively for an outrigger team here in Ventura
and love it! I also SUP (Stand Up Paddle Board) and I believe it to be one of the best
core and cardio workouts. I also volunteer with the Channel Island Naturalist Corp and
lead whale watch excursions and am training to lead Island hikes. Nature fascinates me
and I try to learn about a new plant/bird each week.

6. What are some of your dreams and aspirations?

I had to stop a moment and strike a Martin Luther King Jr. pose just to get in the
mindset to answer this one. hehee. Well, I must say that I am thankful to live in a day
and age were as a woman I can achieve the dreams and aspirations I set. I have
traveled and lived in other countries where this is not so. I have a half dozen
children’s books (all in different phases) that I’d like to get published in the near
future. Here are a few of the working titles, “A Fish Named Sprocket”, “Littles In My
Middles,” “Rockland Learns to Fly”, “Sheep and Other Dreams”, just to name a few.

I just passed my NASM Personal Training exam this week so that is my first step to
becoming a trainer in the fitness industry. I would like to incorporate more of an
outdoor workout environment into a program I design. I would like to model fitness
appeal for Title 9. I love the clothes and the model stories are inspiring. I would like to
start an after school program called C3 that connects children with the community that
emphasizes not only community involvement but health, wellness, art & life tools.

7. What is something about you that people wouldn't know?

From ages 3-13 I had terrible skin allergies and had a skin rash covering 1/3 of my body.
I had to receive inoculations weekly for many years. I was allergic to more things than I
can count and its amazing my parents could find food and a habitable place without
putting me in a bubble. Growing up that way really gave me a deep appreciation for
health and wellness. It made me look at what really mattered. I do not take my days for
granted. It’s the little things that bring me much joy.

8.  What do you do to keep yourself motivated?

Not much, I came out of the box pretty motivated. I know I need to be properly
walked daily otherwise I get grumpy. So getting paid to work out is right up my alley.

9.  If you had one piece of advice to share with our BLR online community, what would
     you tell them?

In the words of Oprah, You are not your past. You are not all the things that have
happen to you. You are the possibility of what can be.

Wow! Her words just prove how awesome she is! I say it all the time, but I am so humbled by all the amazing and inspiring people I have the blessing to work with. Mimi is beautiful inside and out. I hope you have enjoyed getting to know more about Mimi just as much as I have. Next time you visit us at BLR Malibu please be sure to say hello to Mimi!

Cheers to health!

Until next time,

Amanda
