Ready-to-Eat Meals

School just started up a few weeks ago and the holidays are just around the corner, what do these two times have in common? With all the traveling involved, both are times that having ready-to-eat meals can be a life saver! A past guest (thanks Beth!) let me know about an awesome resource called GoPicnic for on-the-go meals that can be purchased online from the website itself, Amazon.com or the Costco website. The meals options are packed with great food items and there are meals to accommodate for gluten intolerance, dairy intolerance, vegetarian and vegan lifestyles. The meals include the following plus some: hummus, tuna, salmon, dry-roasted edamame, unsweetened apple sauce, trail mixes of nuts and fruit, sunflower butter and multi-seed crackers. Give GoPicnic a go next time you are at a loss for packing the kids lunches or need some travel-friendly meals or grab ideas from these past posts!

Hi Jessica,
I honestly don't get the gopicnic thing. Take their hummus and crackers meal for example. One Meal: 400 calories, and $4.99 plus shipping (or gas). Would take me 1 minute to put together a 100 calorie hummus container, some crackers, trail mix and a square of dark chocolate. Much faster and cheaper than ordering it on line or going to Costco. I'd substitute carrots for the cracker crunch and get more nutrition. So often people want to order a custom food because it comes in a box when we can make a healthier combo in less time and for a fraction of the price! I think we need to concentrate on learning to 'see' the healthy snacks that are already sitting in our refrigerator.

Hello! Thank you for your input. I do agree that you can easily put together a lunch box with similar food items, but I like the idea that there are some packaged meals that include healthy ingredients as well. Now there should be no excuse for having a healthy meal even when traveling!
